Tim Donaghy and a Drug Bust
There’s a lot being written about Tim Donaghy being “desperate” and that he’ll “say anything to shorten his sentence” as though we’re supposed to believe that it somehow discredits what he’s saying. This assumes something very, very wrong: that you can give Federal Law Enforcement officials anything less than good information and it will keep you out of jail or help you in any way.
I mean, in a routine drug bust, if the accused decides to give up the goods on another dealer the information has to have some basis in reality. The dude who’s busted can’t just make things up. That’s gonna make people angry and ultimately is going to really hurt your cause.
No, I think there is most likely something substantial here (unless Donaghy has the world’s worst lawyer). I don’t think this is going away quietly. Unless David Stern can pull a master stroke and convince the Federal Government to reduce Tim Donaghy’s sentence in return for Tim Donaghy’s silence.
Now THAT would be a conspiracy.
